Sensory Garden

The Carterton Trefoil Guild, in partnership with Carterton Town Council and West Oxfordshire District Council, are creating a sensory garden in the Market Square. The project aims to transform a small area in the centre of town so that it becomes a sensory oasis; a safe area that will be a pleasant place to visit.

The Trefoil Guild will encourage other residents and groups to contribute to the on-going care of the area – sharing plants and cuttings, planting seasonal bulbs, gardening and enjoying caring for the area.

It is hoped that anyone seeing the completed sensory garden, either as they walk by, park in the nearby carpark, or maybe pause and sit for a while, will enjoy the initial sights and smells of the plants, flowers and shrubs. The planting will provide some shade in high summer and the developed planting will encourage insects and birds – all easily visible within the semi-enclosed space. We hope the benefits of the project will last for many, many years.

This environmental community project has three stages;

  • planning, preparation and securing funding
  • groundwork, construction and initial planting
  • maintenance and community involvement stage

We will update our website with progress photos throughout the stages
