The Market

Following a great deal of preparatory work, the Town Council took over the running of the market, which was relocated onto Black Bourton and Alvescot Roads, the subject of a County Council closure order on Thursdays to allow the market to take place. A survey of shoppers indicated a large majority in favour of the move, and traders have indicated that their business has improved.
However, once Morrison's new store is open, it will no longer be possible to close Black Bourton Road on Thursdays, so we have been discussing the situation with the Market Traders.

It has been agreed to create a new market square outside the Town Hall along the lines indicated in the plans below.

A survey of the site has been undertaken and we are working with the Vets to help them relocate after their current tenancy ends in March 2013.
Plans for the new square include the repositioning of the War Memorial and we expect this will provide an opportunity to make additions to the memorial and also to improve arrangements for Remembrance Sunday.
A well-attended Public Consultation on the plans to create the Market Square and improve the town centre took place on November 22nd 2012. The notes of the meeting can be viewed here
