Carterton Town Council - The Local Economy - Working with the Community

This group developed from the Economy Working Group which contributed to the Carterton Check, and was tasked with supporting the implementation of the ‘economy’ related projects in the Action Plan.

The group met regularly over the three years 2003-6 supported by the CFF Project Manager. During this time its achievements included:

A Business Support Fair

Design, production and distribution of a brochure promoting Carterton as a business destination.

A significant involvement on the Pub/Restaurant/Hotel provision on West Oxfordshire Business Park (a planning application has now been made)

A local business survey undertaken in 2003, updated in 2006

The setting up of a web page for Carterton on the Oxfordshire Chambers Network - www.otcn.co.uk/carterton_chamber.htm

After August 2006, the group was wound up as there was no funding for the Project Manager to continue supporting it.

Future Plans

The Review of the original CFF Project has identified further areas of work and projects which should be explored. These include:

Improving the appearance of the South Carterton Industrial Estate and setting up a tenants' group;

Research into the employment/travel movements of residents of the NE Development;

Exploring with the RAF the potential of attracting aeronautical enterprise to the area;

Support for the development of post-16 education at the Carterton Community College;

Establishing an IT resource/training centre.
