Save the Children

Save the Children - This international Charity was founded in 1919 by Eglantyne Jebb who studied at Oxford University. The charity supports vulnerable children both here in the UK and Overseas. The Charity responds to Emergencies worldwide but also undertakes long term development work covering the Rights of the Child, food/education/clean water/safety & health.

The Carterton branch of Save the Children was formed 40 years ago and has worked throughout that time to raise money for a very worthwhile cause. The branch holds many fundraising events throughout the year including the annual May Day Fair held on the Alvescot Road Recreation Ground and in Brownes Hall. To find out more information, or to offer support, please contact Sue James (Chairman) on 01993 212911 or Pauline Evans (Secretary) on 01993 842983.

Each year the local branch of Save the Children Fund organise a town fete on the recreation ground and in Brownes Hall. We have go-karts and roundabouts, a raffle, tombola's, teddies, white elephants and books. Also a good car boot sale. You can eat ice creams, hot dogs, cakes and candy floss, hopefully not all at once! You can get your face painted, bounce on the castle, pet the animals, smash a few plates and buy plants.

We are always very grateful for the support we receive from other charities and for the people of Carterton supporting this annual event. All the profits from the day go to Save the Children Fund to support their work in over 120 countries around the world and in the UK.

If you would like to be involved in any of our events or would like more details, please contact us.
